Originally this came from the Johnny Carson show and Karnak the Magnificent skit. Where Johnny (Karnak) would magically know the answer to the question in his envelope if he held it up to his head.
Common usages:
How the heck did you karnak that?
How the hell was I supposed to karnak that? You could at least have given me a hint.
