What is Larykan?
1.
Australian hip-hop from the Northern beaches of Sydney.
As Australia begins to produce more and more hip hop artists such as Phrase, Bliss n Eso, Hilltop Hoods , just to name a few, One Man stands tall in the shadows, staying tucked away in his home studio writing and waiting for the perfect time to make his move, and at the same time enforce his impact and presence in the industry.
Im talking about LaryKan, a kid from the East Coast of Oz that grew up on the beach. You cant really pin point a home for Lary. Growing up in a broken home with a brother, sister and loving mother who would later marry a 2nd time for 7 years, and prove to be a big challenge and have a significant impact on the mans life.
But through tragedy there is triumph, and instead of using his disadvantages to run wild and cause havoc, Lary made the choice to put his emotions to use. He identified with hip hop, being a form of creative expression. He began to write, and with his family being very musically minded (his brother is a drummer and his mother a singer/singing teacher) it was a natural progression for him to become an MC.
Performing since he was eight, Lary has had a lot of stage experience and has become a well rounded performer. He is today a versatile artist who can flow with the best and sing equally as well. He really emerged himself in hip hop in his late teens, and inspired by the feeling and passion of expression, his mind was set.
Inspired by the likes of US rappers such as Jay-Z, Eminem, Ludacris and De La Soul, as well as singers like Brandon Boyd,Fred Durst, Mike Patton and Stevie Wonder, Lary was a certified fan of American hip hop, but it wasnt until he started listening to the Australian equivalent that he began to realise that the issues that they were talking about were the same things that was talking about. I would sit in my room and write these lyrics and songs about my life. About issues, real shit, and when I heard this more and more often on the radio, it inspired me and drove me to wanna be great at this, and it still drives me, and it will always.
The forthcoming album, titled Talk Toem is due to be released 2009, and will showcase LaryKan at his best, plus a variation of original beats with a jazz, funk, rock hip hop feel produced by a2z. It will undoubtedly be bouncing, and with LaryKans uncompromisable flow and wordplay with a gripping emotional edge, it will be surely be an exciting album, and one that will be good for the Australian hip hop community.
