Legolas

What is Legolas?

1.

Legolas Greenleaf is one of J.R.R. Tolkien's characters in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. He is the only member of the Fellowship of the Ring that is an elf. He is the prince of Mirkwood and son of King Thranduil. Legolas is a Sindarin elf. He is played by Orlando Bloom in the movies.

Legolas shot the orc with an arrow right between the eyes.

2.

Elf from J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Played by Orlando Bloom in the films. Attracts legions of screaming fangirls that could quite easily attach themselves to any given part of his body and never let go.

The character himself is mediocre at best, exhibiting extraordinary prowess with the bow and arrow but little to no intellect when it comes to dialogue.

In the novels he bursts into song frequently. In the films he provides "witty" comic relief along with dwarf-friend Gimli. Their tired banter makes the audience yawn, but keeps the fangirls happy.

Peter Jackson: Legolas hasn't had a line in awhile. What do we have going in this scene?

...

Aragorn: "He needs time, and safe passage across the Plains of Gorgoroth. We can give him that."

Gimli: "How?"

Aragorn: "Draw out Sauron's armies, empty His lands. Then we gather our full strength and march on the Black Gate. We can give Frodo his chance if we keep Sauron's Eye fixed upon us!"

Legolas: "A diversion!"

4.

A character in Lord of the Rings who rocks but has the unfortunate tendency to state things we already know.

Syn: 'Captain Obvious', 'Mr. Paraphrase'

Legolas: "A DIVERSION!!"

5.

An Elf, one of the Firstborn, son of Thranduil (King of Mirkwood, once called Greenwood), Prince of Mirkwood. Not much is known about his history, little enough is known about his future. Tolkien left no specifics as to Legolas' life prior to the War of the Ring (much to the delight of some as they create their own history for him) and very little about his future, mentioning only that he colonized Ithilien and sailed to the Grey Havens with Gimli following Aragorn's death.

The first time we meets Legolas is at the Council of Elrond, for he was sent a messenger to Elrond, bearing the ill tidings of Gollum's escape from his Elven captors. Agrees to help Frodo on his journey to Mordor in order that the One Ring might be destroyed. It mentions little about his appearance, stating only the he was 'a strange Elf, clad in green and brown' of 'fair face' wielding a 'bow and quiver, and at his belt a long white knife'. His 'eyes were keen'. It is also said that he could run over the snow. At this point he made jest of Boromir's saying by replying, "The strongest must seek a way, say you? But I say: let a ploughman plough, but choose an otter for swimming, and for running light over grass and leaf, or over snow- an Elf." After Gandalf's return from the dead, Legolas is given this warning by the Lady Galadriel: "Legolas Greenleaf long under tree. In joy thou hast lived. Beware of the Sea!If thou hearest the cry of the gull on the shore, Thy heart shall then rest in the forest no more." True to her words, when Legolas heard the cries of the gulls, he no longer was contented to walk beneath the trees, but longed to sail across the Sea. It is also mentioned about him that he made fast friends with the Dwarf, Gimli, son of Gloin. Such fast friends did they become that when Legolas departed from Middle Earth for the Grey Havens, Gimli was granted passage as well and given the name Elf-friend.

Despite his rather obsolete character in the books, Legolas was granted a higher position in the movies by his avid fans (most of them girls). Legolas is often thought of as an idol for the modern day teen girl, truly many worship the character of Legolas. Few actually give the character the proper reverance he deserves, thinking only of him as eye candyor, for those realistic few, completely ridiculous. Legolas never seems to run out of arrows, and his hair is in extremely good condition for one who runs from flaming Balrogs, battle orcs and cave trolls, runs for miles, and rides for even more miles. Is often called Captain Obviousdue to his comment during the Two Towers of "WARGS!"

Gimlie Gloin's son is renowned...He was named Elf-friend because of the great love that grew between him and Legolas, son of King Thranduil...

6.

Character from Lord of the Rings who used to be good, but now only succeeds in stating the obvious, having a magically-replenishing supply of arrows, and drawing preteenaged fangirls who squeal far too much because "omg orlando bloom is teh hottest!"

Legolas fangirls are taking over the planet.
