Lexapro (Escitalopram) is an antidepressant drug from a class of drugs known as the Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor used to treat Major Depressive Disorder and General Anxiety Disorder. Lexapro was derived from the SSRI Celexa (Citalopram) in 1997 by Forest and Lundbeck Pharmaceuticals because the patent on Celexa was expiring. Neither drugs are derivitives of Prozac (Fluoxetine), though the drugs belong to the same class.
