What is Licking Chips?

The act of playing the field by giving attention to many potential partners, but avoiding any serious advances.
Comes from the juvenile practice of licking chips, particularly Doritos brand, in order to claim them for oneself, but not necessarily eating them.
"Man, she called last night...I think she's still into me"
"Naw, she's just licking chips."
