On a personal computer, the usual designation for a parallel port connection to a printer or other device such as a scanner or camera. LPT connections are numbered LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, etc.; most computers have at least one. More parallel ports can be added by installing parallel port adapter cards.

LPT is the original, yet still common, name of the parallel port interface on IBM PC-compatible computers. It was designed to operate a text printer that used IBM's 8-bit extended ASCII character set.
