Music that's usually on the radio, Top 40 and is well known to the general public. Usually criticized by fans of the previous mainstream generations, and people who prefer bands and/or genres that aren't apart of the mainstream popularity of the time.

Todays Mainstream Music usually includes Bands/Artits such as 50 cent, Rhianna, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, etc.

The worst thing that ever happened to music.

Mainstream music can be 2 things.

1) An overrated song/album that recieves mass popularity, particularly if it has a music video with 90% naked chicks or if it is radio friendly which is why metal is rarely on radio stations. If you listen to everything else that band has to offer, you will see that the mainstream songs/albums suck hardcore compared to thier other material.

2) The genres of Pop, Rap, and Hip-Hop, one of the only reasons people like these genres, is to fit in usually. They are great examples of mainstream music.

1) Load/Reload albums from Metallica, and the song Enter Sandman, the songs Purple Haze and Foxy Ladyby Jimi Hendrix, the album Mezmerize by System of a down, and all the remixes of Linkin Park that focus on 80% rap 20% rock, instead of balancing the two.

2) Dont get me started on this shit.
