What is Master-at-arms?

A Naval term to identify a sailor on a ship whose duties are similar to a police officer. Master-At-Arms was first used by the BritishNavy as early at the reign of King Charles I. They traditionally enforce discipline on a Naval ship, but since 2001 have evolved into more anti-terrorism and force-protection duties.
