What is Maytagate?

Inexplicably, ever since man has worn socks and Maytag has made washers and dryers, socks have mysteriously disappeared in the mix. Now we have a name for this phenomena!
Damn! I just took the clothes out of the dryer and I'm missing a blue, a black, an argyle, and a white tube sock. Looks like another Maytagate.
