Mexitone

What is Mexitone?

1.

(n) The tone quality achieved by playing the saxophone with one or more of the following conditions: taking as much of the mouthpiece into the mouth as possible; the mouthpiece pushed all the way in over the cork, playing on a reed that is chipped, very worn out, and possibly plastic; using a horn position of an extremely acute angle. Usually performed on the verge of squeaking, accompanied by rapid tonguing, and often heard in salsa, merengue, cumbia, and various latin styles of music.

With flat-top mullet swaying in the east la breeze, Jorge played "Oye Como Va" with such a beautiful mexitone.
