Abbreviation. Marc Format for Holdings Data. A section of data describing books in an online library catalog. Pronounced 'muffhead' by embarrassingly oblivious librarians not sly to the connotation of the word muff. Referred to as the 'holdings record' by more discrete members of the profession.
