What is Mode 7?

Mode 7 is a hardware graphics mode used by the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) for rotating and scaling images. It was mainly used for special effects and to add perspetive to normally 2D maps (such as the world maps in the Final Fantasy series).
