Moot Salute

What is Moot Salute?

1.

(v). The act of seeing a person and instinctively blurting a greeting, "Hey, how are you doing?" or "What's up?" without waiting for a response.

These questions, not actually salutes or greetings, are most often abused. If one is not looking for a response to these questions or does not actually care about an individual's wellbeing, he or she may consider refraining from asking the questions.

The combination of a salute and a departure is moot.

Peer: "Hi Michael! How are you?"

(Peer continues walking)

Michael: "Great! Actually, today-"

(Abruptly cut off by peer leaving the scene).

(Slightly muddled, Michael gazes ahead, seeking answers from life).

Michael: Victim of a moot salute.
