What is Mulenga?

MULENGA is a commonly used name in the Bemba language of Zambia to mean: the creator. It is distinct to the Zambian vernacular as a first name to describe the creative spirit of the person, depending on the naming tradition. The word is also descriptive verb for Manifesting or bringing forth abundance, like a bean sprout. As a legendary creation myth for explaining the destiny of a people by the story of a beautiful goddess who suddenly appeared from the invisible, to make things happen or to create new possibilities.

For a example, a Man or a Woman may be named mulenga because the creative force of spirit and earth is both male and female. Therefore many families of the Bemba heritage may have Mulenga as the surname or as the first name of a male or female person.
