Ruining something while attempting to fix it, on account of using brute force instead of gentle persuasion.
Bobby replaced the nut with an adjustable wrench, mullering it into position. "That should hold it," he exclaimed triumphantly. Sonia watched with disdain. "Sure," she said, "if we never have to replace the wheel again. That's totally cross-threaded."
