Black nationalist movement that is as different from Islam as night is from day. These people are not true Muslims. For example, they don't believe that Muhammad (S) was the last prophet. In fact, their founder Louis Farrakhan is regarded by the NOI as a Prophet. Also, in Islam you are supposed to be tolerant. The NOI hate white people and want segregation. In short and are actually just racist bastards who are not Muslims. They only use the Islamic jargon.
Nation of Islam members should study actual Islam instead of the garbage that Louis Farrakhan introduced. They should follow Malcom X's example.

Wallace D. Fard (c. 1877-1934) was a traveling salesman who gathered followers during the Depression among the poverty-stricken African-Americans of Detroit. He mysteriously disappeared in June 1934 and was consequently identified as an incarnation of Allah. Under Elijah Muhammad (1897-1975), Fard's Minister of Islam, and Muhammad's lieutenant Malcolm X (1925-1965), the movement gained international prominence.
The Nation of Islam's declared aim is the raising of the moral, social, and economic standing of non-whites. This has included the vilification of the dominant group, white Caucasians, even to the point of calling whites the personification of evil and maintaining that the white race is an aberration, the human race having originally been black. Therefore, according to this theory, blacks must pursue separate development. By turning racist ideas around to oppose whites, the movement has attracted many adherents and has had particularly good success in converting prisoners, criminals, and drug users. Black Muslims have financed the construction of mosques, schools, apartment complexes, stores, and farms.
Elijah Muhammad taught that American blacks, a group that includes all people of color, were descended from the ancient tribe of Shabazz that had originally settled the holy city of Mecca, and that blacks and whites can share no real community. Malcolm X was his closest collaborator until a quarrel between the two men in 1964. Malcolm X then went on a pilgrimage to Mecca, where he saw people of every race worshiping side by side, and he became convinced of the hopelessness of racism. He returned to the United States and founded the Organization of Afro-American Unity, which preached black nationalism but not black separatism. He was shot and killed while speaking to a large gathering in New York City in 1965. After Elijah Muhammad's death in 1975, his son Warith Deen Muhammad radically transformed the Black Muslim movement, opening it to whites and renaming it the American Muslim Mission. In 1979, Louis Farrakhan broke away from the Mission, establishing the more radical Nation of Islam, which restricts membership to blacks and advocates a separate black social structure.

An ignorant black nationalist group claiming to be followers of the "true" Islam. You know, completely ignoring the fact that Muhammad said:
"Allah does not look at your shapes or your colors but He looks at your hearts (intentions) and your deeds."
And that the Qur'an says:
"O mankind! We have created you from a single male and female and made you into nations and tribes so that you may know each other." (49:13)
In fact, Muhammad himself was a white Arab and the first man to perform the Muslim call to prayer (the Adhan) was Bilal, a black ex-slave. Islam is inherently non-racist, and anyone who says or thinks otherwise is an idiot.
Malcolm X was killed because he exposed the Nation of Islam for what it is: a false teaching.

a religious sect of islam founded by wallace fard muhammad in 1930. after the disappearance of muhammad in 1934 the sect was lead by muhammad's understudy, elijah muhammad, until his death in 1975. during elijah muhammad's leadership the sect spread across the country as well as parts of the west indies. the organization preached and continues to preach black pride and advocates separation from white society in the form of education, business, and a separate state for blacks. the organization came at odds with mainstream islam, civil rights advocates, as well as the united states government. although the organization is not accepted by mainstream islam it thrives with blacks who were at the bottom of society. the organization was and continues to reform black drug addicts, pimps, hustlers, hookers, criminals, and others that the black church, social services, mainstream islam, and others can not reach.. the organization was also able to build a separate black economy that included mosques, barber shops, grocery stores, schools, bakeries, dry cleaners, farms, banks, and a successful whiting fish operation in the majority of the major cities of america. it's most famous member was malcolm x who joined the sect while in prison. malcolm x would later leave the organization in 1964 and would be killed a year later. another member, clarence 13x, would break away from the sect in 1963 and form the five percenters now known as the nation of gods and earths which is considered more radical but has thrived amongst hip hop artist. after muhammad's death the sect was taken over by wallace muhammad, elijah muhammad's son, who changed the sects teachings and brought it more in line with traditional islam. in 1977 louis farrakhan, the national spokesman of the nation of islam, broke away from wallace and started a separate organization which he continues to lead today. urban dictionary should be used to post non biased defintions and not post personal feelings or hatred towards a individual, party, organization, etc .
