Benefits: cheaper and easier to self-install than a formal sprinkler system, no possible damage to sprinkler heads by incompetent gardeners, can adjust water flow by either adding more holes or putting duct tape to decrease flow

Downfalls: too many holes lead to pressure decrease in whole system, may freeze in winter
