Sometimes the word is used as a term of endearment, used by females to refer to a boyfriend / close male friend. Often, but not always, the term is used to refer to a male originally from the Indian subcontinent who has a first name beginning with the letter 'N'; but it can also be used to refer to a European male who is respected.
That guy's full name is Nilesh, but we all call him Niz because he is cool.
