A type of person who usually has money, but for some unknown reason is suddenly broke. The opposite of nouveau riche.
Dan: What's your new laptop like?
John: Great, but I checked my bank balance and I'm flat broke.
Dan: I thought you were minted..!?
John: I was, now I'm nouveau pauvre.
