the completely irrelevant "news" increasingly dominating network news, newspapers, and magazines. Such material usually consists of pointless celebrity gossip. it usually has the effect of dumbing down the public, because instead of being informed of what is going on in the world, most of the media attention is diverted to Britney's latest meltdown, Miley Cyrus's new hair, or some crazy lady who had 8 kids.
While corporations and politicians were fucking up the world, their friends in the media biz distracted the public with nuuz.
