positive term of address used to connote respect, wisdom and experience in a person, usually male who appears youthful
"What's goin' on old boy?"

This term is used in south east England esp fenland (apparently def not by Londoners)to refer to just another lad. It does not mean said person is old as its paradoxically usually used to refer to a young man or adolescent male.
That old boy over there in the adidas cap is the one i told you about who slagged off Ricky the other night.
