Ophelia Vanity, born Ophelia Svensdottir on March 22, 1987 is a professional model, actor, and "Internet celebrity" living in Hollywood, California.
She is noted for her "unique and different look," as she is an exotic combination of being half-Icelandic and Chinese. Using that to her advantage, she began her modeling career at age 18. She began acting only about a year ago and has been cast in minor roles so far for music videos/TV shows, but she has noted that she is interested in focusing on the latter more now.
As far as the recent phenomena of "Internet celebrities" go, she initially rose to fame on a blogging site and then moved to Myspace a few years later. Being one of the first few thousand to join the aforementioned site, on top of her rising popularity, she has been the target of both successful and unsuccessful attempts at hacking her account. This resulted in her account being unfairly deleted twice and her most recent one was made in 2007.
Over the course of the past two years, she has registered and gotten her own domain name, as well as Myspace now being her only "social-networking" profile. She does have another account on LiveJournal, which she also gained notoriety from for starting a community geared towards helping those with eating disorders. It is far from a "Pro-Ana" site, which has definitely caused an immeasurable amount of controversy from peers of her own age group. The older and more prominent crowd in today's mainstream media have noticed it as well, hence her many interviews on television and magazines being broadcasted internationally, anywhere from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) to the popular Teen Vogue magazine in the United States. Producers from the Tyra Banks Show and Cristina, along with many other variety or talk shows have contacted and requested her permission to appear on them, though she has mainly declined those offers.
Her modeling print photos have appeared in about 4 nation-wide magazines, as well as many other smaller city-based fanzines or blogs. Another accomplishment by Ophelia mainly recognized in the Myspace community revolves around "Vanity Is Perfection" aka VIP, the group she created 5 years ago. This has also resulted in hundreds or even thousands of carbon-copy groups nowadays that have borrowed the idea of "perfection groups" from her. VIP from the start and even to this day is undoubtedly characterized as the "most elite and mother of all of these groups on Myspace."
Expanding on the above subject, most of her fanbase consists of 14-18 year old girls and guys, mainly of the "scene and hipster crowd." She has never labeled herself, which is actually one of the few things she prides herself on, as answered in the Q & A section of her blog. She believes that she has an original style that she has never seen in anyone before, though she admits it has been attempted to be replicated many times before. Thus she finds it interesting and bemusing herself that the majority of her followers are from a certain "label" and often backlash or hate sites can be found from her reputation as "wannabe scene queen," or a "Gothic Paris Hilton."
As of the past few months, she rarely logs on anymore, though it has been widely circulated that she always tries to reply back to any messages and comments, no matter how vast the amount. She is trying to focus on her modeling, acting, and fashion career, but will never forget her roots and the online forums and sites that she started and rose from.
