Order 66 Edit Meaning

Hitler's Commando Order (Kommandobefehl in German) that was secretly distributed to high command, ordering that all irregulars (ie. commandos) captured be handed over to the Sicherheitsdienst (SD: intelligence arm of the SS) for interrogation and execution.

Used in common speech as a reference to eradicating a group of (usually valiant) people.

It has recently surfaced in popular culture in the George Lucasfilm Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, when Emperor Palpatine orders his Stormtroopers to "execute order 66", which is the instruction to kill all Jedi.

"The bastard put an order 66 on his friends."

This command was given by the Galactic Republic's Supreme ChancellorPalpatine to the Galactic Republic's Clone Troopers in Star WarsEpisode IIIRevenge of the Sith. Order 66 indicated that the Jedis have betrayed the Galactic Republicand therefore the enemies of the Galactic Republic, the Jedis who are now traitors of the Galactic Republicare later on immediately killed by the Clone Troopers on sight.

The number 6 is probably a reference to classic hexagram, which is something used to put a curse on someone, sort of like the targeting reticle of a gunner.

When a team turns against their leader, who is right, to incur favor with someone higher in the command chain. This references "Order Sixty-Six" in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, when the emporer issues the order for the soldiers to turn against the Jedi.

Even though Vince had come up with a better proposal, the rest of the team Order 66ed him when the director disagreed. Now we're stuck using the directors plan.

Quite possibly the greatest words ever said in a movie, "Order 66." Order 66 is the murder of all remaining Jedi placed by Emperor Palpatine. Watching one Jdi after another get slaughtered is one of the most fulfilling things I've ever seen. Bow down to your Dark Lord you weakling.
