Telling a story to try and outshine or top someone else's story.
Joe: "One of the kids at my school just got kicked out of his house."
Matt: "Well, twelve kids at my school have been homeless since they were one and were raised by wild animals."
Joe: "Why do you have to try and outstory me?"
