What is Pakeha?

New Zealand Europeans. Often used in a derogatory sense, and considered offensive.
Pakeha is often believed to mean white pig in Maori coming from poaka, although it is only speculation, it is common belief.
It's reception amongst both Europeans and Maori is mixed, with some discrediting it as an offensive label whilst others view it as an addition to the culturally diverse nature of New Zealand society.
