Any word, phrase, or sentence that paints a distinct and complete mental image. Evocative. (defined by Brian Drab, circa 1998).
William Cullen Bryant's Thanatopsis contains some particularly picticious passages:
"The venerable woods—rivers that move
In majesty, and the complaining brooks
That make the meadows green; and, poured round all"
