Today, the term "pinup girl" refers to models for publications like Playboy and Maxim. However, there is an underground culture of retro-inspired pinup girls that still dress and model like the original pinup pictures. Pinup models, past and present, are all major sex symbols like Betty Grable and MarilynMonroe, and famous pinup artists include Vargas and Elvgren.
