Mexican slang. People of low socio-economic status who, when they start to make a better life for themselves financially, think and act as if they are rich. Translated literally means "rich poor".
Pinche pobre-rico. Ever since he got promoted to senior custodian he thinks he's rich. That used Lincoln Navigator and above-ground pool's got to his head.
Son says, "Mom, Viri at school is always bragging that she's the richest girl in school." Mom responds, "Mijo, don't pay attention. They're pobre ricos. They built a new garage for their Dodge Durango, but the fools don't even have central heat and air."
