Poinus (pronounced Pon-us) is a slang term for the word Penis, that was originated in the Hamlet of Islip, New York, but has since gained notariaty nationwide.
The word Poinus can be found on the Urban Dictionary, as a legit 'underground' phrase. It's most often used in lighthearted situations, or in social situations with close friends. It's use in a formal setting may be considered inappropriate, for several reasons. One, being that the term may not be recognized by the masses, and Two, it's not a 'curse word', per se, but it's still not appropriate to use in many given situations.
It's been speculated that the word Poinus was created by Tim Bauernfeind of Islip, in the early 1990's. It quickly gained popularity in a small circle of individuals, and over the years, extended outward, and became a Long Island term. Then branched out even further, and it's been mentioned in several Hollywood Films and routinely in the New York city comedy circuit.
It remains doubtful that the word will become an intregal part of American culture, but it's noteworthy enough to have a story behind it.
