This Protestant surname originates from Northern Ireland (who would hav known?) and is commonly mistaken to be or ROMANIAN origin (of which it isn't.) Due to its common misinterpretation, misconceptions and confused reactions (to the name), it is also used as a substitute for items similar to No-man's-land, loners, and undefinable people...or extreme protestants.
