From Newspeak, the language in George Orwell's 1984. Newspeak was the State Approved version of English, which was being gradually whittled down with the goal of creating a language in which it would be impossible to have an unorthodox thought.
terrorist used to mean someone who used violence or threats of violence to frighten a populace, usually as part of a group with some political end. The word has been twisted to mean "anyone who opposes the Bush administration in any way" - a great example of Rovespeak.
