To talk yourself up but then be unable to back it up.
This is a real life example of blowing it like in the movie KingPin.
Gabe "Godzilla" Ruediger, an up-and-coming professional MMA Fighter, embarrassed himself and ruined his career on national TV May 3rd 2007. Arriving 20lbs overweight two weeks before his fight, trash talking his fellow contenders, eating snacks and ice cream cake, boasting about his skills, skipping training to get colonics -- he was unable to cut his weight to the required 155lb limit for his fight and was disqualified and removed from the show and a chance at a $100K fighting contract. His crying, over reacting, and total lack of effort angered the entire MMA community and destroyed his reputation.
