The 50 AE cartridge is one of the most powerful handgun cartridges today. It was designed for use in the desert eagle pistol by magnum research in the early 90's and is still one of the most sought after calibers for the desert eagle. A 300 grain 50AE bullet shot out of a desert eagle with a 6 inch barrel will travel at around 1400 feet per second. Compare that to your every day .45acp that shoots a 230 grain bullet at 800 feet per second. or a 500 smith and wesson magnum revolver that will shoot bullets larger than a 50AE at almost 1900 feet per second. While the 50AE isn't the largest, most powerful handgun around, it is still a monster. The 50AE cartridge isn't just an exclusive round for the desert eagle, either.
