Internet slang defined as "smiling but not laughing". Lol is abused when individuals are, more often than not, not laughing. This terminology is used when one is smiling at another's comments but is not actually laughing
Robin: Hey, how's it going?
Jason: Not too bad, I just bumped into your friend and he asked me why the chicken crossed the road.
Robin: What'd you say?
Jason: I told him the chicken wanted to get to the other side
