What is Self-inflicted House Arrest?

1: When you lie to someone in order to avoid hanging out with them and are then stuck in the house because if that person sees you out they will catch you in the lie and know you just don't like them.
2: This also happens frequently when you turn someone down for a date the nice way instead of just telling them you're not interested.

Sarah: Hey Jamie! A bunch of us are going to the mall, wanna come?
Jamie: I can't, I'm under self-inflicted house arrest. That skank Laura just called me and asked if I wanted to go hang out and I told her I had a paper due so I couldn't. With my luck she'll totally be at the mall and see me.

Michelle: Hey, wanna go to the movies? That new one you wanted to see just came out.
Amy: I would but I'm under self-inflicted house arrest. Matt called and asked me to go to the movies with him like five minutes ago and I said I was sick. You should have called sooner! Then I could have had a good excuse!
