What is Serj?

A set word in Blagoevgrad(Bulgaria) meaning friend, mate. It comes from "serjant" (or sergeant in english). Noone knows its orgin but it is widely used.

"Hey serj whats up?"

"Hey serj do you have one cigarette?"
