Pain or discomfort may manifest lightly and gradually throughout the day or suddenly with intense abdominal pain accompanied by shifty, audible bowels. Total relief is usually present immediately after the delivery of the first bowel specimen but pain or discomfort may linger if difficult specimens remain persistent.
