To shut someone out is to stop being friends with them without really letting them know. It's a popular tactic among junior high students who are suddenly too cool for their friend(s), but too cowardly to do the right thing.

She didn't invite me to her party, she won't return my phone calls, and she's always hanging out with that new girl now. I can't believe I'm getting shut out! Why, oh why, what did I do?
