What is Skier's Thumb?

Occurs when holding out your hand to stop an inevitible face plant into concrete snow - your fingers are safely curled around your pole, but your thumb bends ways never intended by nature, and is usually accompanied by an audible "pop".
What's with the knife? Oh, I got skier's thumb...hurts so bad I'm just gonna get rid of the whole thing...who needs thumbs anyways
