Can also be used to describe a hated or useless person, although this usage is not as common.

Trivia: the term was originally coined after the 19th century physician and pioneer in the research of hospital acquired pneumonia, Dr. Edmund Skorvatch, who was rumored to have possessed an extra nipple.
