What is Smackanory?

The far-fetched tale of woe and lamentation one hears from a drug-addicted beggar in the street. Delivered in a (usually) futile effort to inspire pity and thereby extract cash, which will be more or less immediately converted to hard drugs.
I never usually give them anything, but that smackanory nearly broke my heart. And you can't buy much with 2p anyway.
