Intellectually lazyspeech in which a single all-purposenoun or verb is frequentlysubstituted for something more specific, the term for which the speaker can't be bothered to remember. From the dialoguebetween the titlecharacters in the cartoon series "The Smurfs", in which the word "smurf" is frequently substituted for other words; the word substituted does not necessarily have to be "smurf".
