What is Stockton Borough?

Stockton Borough is a very small riverside community in central western New Jersey. Sitting on the Delaware River it has a population of about 560. Formerly named Readings Ferry, then renamed Howell's Ferry, it was then officially founded and named Stockton in 1851. The Stockton Inn (formally known as Colligan's Stockton Inn), established in 1710, is the inn that was immortalized by Richard Rodgers in the song "There's a small hotel with a wishing well", sung in the Broadway play On Your Toes. The inn was first built as a private residence and is believed to have been converted in 1832.
Stockton is well known for maintaining its unchanging 18th century look with very little being changed in the town. Stockton is also home to one of the country's oldest and still operating school house. Which consists of 4 classrooms. A 5th room was added in the late 1980's.
Shawn Van Fleet is one of the few gay youths who reside in Stockton Borough.
