What is Supernomaly?

A word which begins as a name for a specific member of a general class of items, but which ends up signifying the entire class.
Because Xerox was the first manufacturer of photocopy machines, many people now use "Xerox" as a synonym for photocopier, thus rendering "xerox" a supernomaly.
