What is Sympathy Food?

Food received by the family of a recently divorced relative. This food is usually from friends and family who try to help the family through their hard time with the help of pies and precooked dinners.
After Grandma died our refridgerator was stuffed with sympathy food a pie from my aunt, muffins from church my mom's church group and an entire precooked dinner from my uncle.
