An intentional mangling of (the) internetused for ironic effect as a humorous reference to the large segment of the population that remains clueless about technology. Now a popular malapropism, "the internets" meme exploded after the second televised Bush-Kerry debate held prior to the 2004 Presidential election. Blogs and Television, especially The Daily Show, bear much of the responsibility for the initial propagation of "the internets" as it is currently used.

When asked about the seeming inevitibility of a draft, the President replied, "I hear there's rumors on the Internets (sic) that we're going to have a draft..."
