What is Tontine?

An agreement between individuals wherein the last surviving participant inherits all of the assets from each member. Alternatively, the assets may be split evenly among each of the surviving members after a certain period of time.

To decide who would inherit our father's mansion, my brothers and I entered into a tontine. Only two of us remain.
