What is Transgender?

A term referring to when one's gender and sex are not always or ever equivalent. Often used as a referrant to the person themself.

This is a broad term that includes transexual (pre/non or post-op), non-gender, bi (tri & multi) gender, androgynes, etc.

The state of being transgendered may or may not have any bearing on sexual preferences.

Jen was born a female, but as a person is a man.

Bob was born a male, but as a person is a woman.

Karen was born a female, but as a person has no gender.

John was born a male, but as a person switches gender.

and so on..

a person who feels that the body into which they were born doesn't represent their true gender. this person may simply dress as their opposite gender and live their life as the opposite gender that way; or this person might get an operation to change their sex organs.

Anyone whose physical makeup, emotional, sexual and/or self-expression is in conflict with current cultural genderstereotypes.

1. A transgender transcends cultural gender norms.

2. A European woman who wore pants in 1910 was a transgender because she violated current cultural gender stereotypes of the day.

An umbrella term that includes transexuals, transvestites, intersexedpeople, and just about anybody else who doesn't conform to the traditional model of sex/gender. "Transgender" is the most general, inclusive term.

It used to be called the gay community. Now we say the GLBT (gay, lesbian, bi, and transgendered) community.

Someone like myself who feels I was born into the wrong body. My mind is like a woman. My body is like a man. Soon I will be getting my surgery done so I can be who I was meant to be. I am a transgender.

There is a major difference between sex & gender:

1. Sex is between the legs.

2. Gender is between the ears.

Transgendered people are beautiful people.
