1. a play on the word "primate" to indicate three America Primatologists who are famous for the pioneering work with great apes.

2. a nickname for the collective group of three female American ethologists who observe and study non-human primates: Jane Goodall - chimpanzees, Dian Fossey - gorillas, and Birute Galdikas - orangutans.

3. also known as "Leakey's Angels" since they were all sponsored and mentored by Louis Leakey.

The Trimates have made tremendous advances for feminist science.
