a turtle story is one of those stories that your friends tell everyone as conversation openers. They are good (if random) stories, great for new people, but you've heard them so many times your ears could bleed.
Friend 1 to new person:"I have to tell you this story about when..."
Friend 2 to Friend 1:"About when your dad ran over the cat with his car. Turtle story if I ever heard one"
New person never learns the full story.
